The building
Have you ever wondered what the grey pebble-clad building is doing attached to the back end of St Catherine's Church? Why it is there and what it does?
We have put together this page to give you some idea of how the Centre got
to be the way it is today, and what kind of activities go on in it.
The Centre is a community centre, physically attached to the Church and to the
building which is now the Café Orange.
It is owned by the Church. It is open to be used by any groups or individuals
who are willing to abide by the Centre Management Committee's Equal Opportunities,
Child Protection and Health and Safety policies.
Who runs it?
The Telegraph Hill Centre is run by a sub-committee of St Catherine's Church Parochial Church Council with equal representation from the PCC and the community. The PCC reps are chosen by the PCC usually after the Annual Church Parochial meeting in April, and can be anyone from the congregation.
The Community reps are nominated and elected at the Centre Annual General
meeting which is held every year in October.
What do they do?
The Management Committee meets approximately every six weeks and oversees the areas of fundraising, budgeting, building maintenance, staffing and the
youth work and lunch club for the elderly. It also deals with relationships
with user groups and with other local organisations like the schools and
park contractors. New members are always welcome!
Annual General Meeting
THE NEXT AGM WILL BE IN OCTOBER 2008. Watch the events listing on the home page for The Hill for details. A new management committee will be elected
then, there will be reports from all the activities and a guest speaker, as well as free refreshments! Please come and play your part in the running of the Centre! We look forward to seeing you there.
