The Hill > Festival 2008: Friday February 29th to Sunday 9th March
BEAT THE WINTER BLUES AND COME AND JOIN THE FUN!
In its 14th year the Telegraph Hill Festival will be taking place from February 29th to March 9th 2008 with fringe events going on until the 15th March. This annual showcase of local talent offers something for everyone, from teenage rock bands to belly dancing, from arts and crafts to comedy. Arguably the highlight of this year’s Festival is the community musical production ‘The Happy Prince’ in which adults and children alike warm up rusty vocal chords and sing their hearts out over the opening weekend. Also in the first weekend two new events bring a Latin American flavour to the Festival. Practise your Salsa dancing at Crossways School on Saturday evening and then join in a tour of South America in poetry, prose and song in the Café Orange on Sunday evening. Other events to look out for include ‘Classics on the Hill’ where the child-friendly and accessible‘Lucy and the Count’ – version of the Dracula story (for strings and narrator) and Schubert’s ‘Trout’ quintet will be played by some of the area’s most talented musicians. Dance workshops, illustrated talks, craft fair and open studios keep you busy in the afternoons while events such as Jazz and Blues on the Hill and Comedy Night have become guaranteed hits regularly selling out. All performances are offered by local people for local people, and any money raised goes straight back into the Festival.
Don’t miss your chance to see first class performances and exhibitions performed locally. Use the Festival calendar to plan your personal
programme. Tickets are sold at St Catherine’s Church Box Office from 21st February. Be warned, many shows sell out, so get your tickets early to
avoid disappointment.

Acknowledgements
We are grateful to the Vicar and Churchwardens for the use of St
Catherine’s Church and to the regular user groups at the Telegraph Hill
Centre whose meetings are disrupted by the Festival.
The Festival could not happen without the efforts of many volunteers.
Thank you very much to everyone who is taking part in this year’s
Festival. We would also like to give special thanks to Betty Briley of the
Telegraph Hill Centre and Julia King of Café Orange for their
enthusiastic support.
We are very grateful to our sponsors who have generously donated
money to the Festival. These are all local businesses and we would
like to encourage you to support them. If you use any of the services
publicised in this programme please let them know that you appreciate
their support for the Festival.
Organisation
Telegraph Hill Festival is a voluntary, non-profit organisation which
aims to celebrate the community and encourage and develop the arts
in Telegraph Hill and the surrounding areas. It is organised by the
Festival Group which is open to everyone. It could not take place
without the time and skills of a very wide range of people so please
consider joining us, especially if this year you found that there wasn’t
an event to appeal to you. The Chair, Sara Scott, Vice Chair, Tamsin
Bacchus, Treasurer, Julian Hewett and Vice Treasurer, Rosemary
Wyatt can all be contacted through the Centre or by email. There will
be a meeting on Monday 31st March at 8pm at the Centre to discuss
this year’s Festival, at which all are welcome.
Funding
The Festival does not receive any public funding. We depend on
income from sponsorship, ticket sales and bar sales and especially on
the generosity of all the participants donating their time and their talent.
Any surplus income from this year will be used for next year or donated
to the Telegraph Hill Centre and to the St.Catherine’s Church roof
repair fund.
